Getting to Know the Reiki Hand Positions
April 3, 2009
With Reiki treatment, the energies are balanced so a new kick for life is furthermore promoted. Through all of these, the Reiki hand positions play a vital role.
As the treatment session is conducted, the hand positions are importantly executed. They are able to let the individual feel the strong sense of coldness, heat, tingling, or pulsations vibrating within him. It is also possible to be devoid of any sort of feelings. Reiki treatment may be performed on yourself or to another. The positions of the hand are definitely meant to cure the diseases that affect the parathyroid, thymus, thyroid gland, asthma, and the throat, among others.
If you have not witnessed an actual healing procedure, then you may not be familiar with the various hand positions. This article is going to give you an idea of what they are. Read on and find out below.
The first position is the hand that is placed on the face. To do this, you should put your palms either on your own face or on the person who is receiving Reiki. The palms should form a cup over the eyes while the fingers are on the forehead. There must be no pressure at all but only a gentle touch.
The second position includes the hand on the crown and on the top of the head. Both hands must be on the sides of the head whereas the heels of the hands are located near the ears. The fingertips must be able to touch the crown.
The third position is at the back of the head. Form a cross by using your arms. One of the hands must be on the head while the other one is above the neck’s nape.
The fourth position includes the touching of the heart and collarbone. Make a V-like shape with the thumb and fingers. You must be able to easily hold your neck via the V formation. Lower one of your hands and have it resting in between the collarbone and the heart.
The fifth has something to do with touching the jaw line and the chin as well. Again, let your hands form a cup and let your chin rest in it. Let your hands wrap themselves on your jaw line.
The sixth position includes your ribs. Put your hand on the upper portion of the rib cage and provide some support to the bended elbows. The other hand should be on the abdomen. Let your fingertips touch your tummy.
The pelvic area is included in the seventh position. Put your hands on your pelvic bone and allow your fingertips to touch your pelvic region.
Then the eight position concerns your shoulders. Bend your elbows and arms over the head and touch your shoulder blades with your hand. While your elbows are bent, put your hands onto the center part of your back.
The final position includes the lower back and the sacrum. Let your hands rest on your lower back. Lower your arms and then place them on the sacral area and then proceed to relax.
The main intention of the Reiki hand positions is to let the energy flow and retain its balance once more. A practitioner will not apply a heavy pressure on the body parts but will simply touch them to promote the general flow of the somehow trapped energies.
Skeptics view on Reiki
January 22, 2009
Many believe Reiki to be a pseudoscience. Many medical personnel think it is a waste of time. Doctors express concern when people with serious diseases such as heart problems, stroke, and cancer choose Reiki over conventional treatment. The practitioners are playing on the patient’s fear and just stealing their money, doing nothing in the process.
Reiki practitioners maintain that while you should still get the treatment your doctor has planned, you can use Reiki as a complement to that therapy. The Reiki community would never advocate causing harm to anyone.
There are also many controversies about the different Reiki schools and how they differ. Some use different symbols. Some use energy healing instead of laying in of hands. Some go through each degree in one year, whereas others can take up to ten years to get to Master.
The churches have issues with Reiki as well. The Catholics believe it opens the door to evil. Some religions don’t even recognize it as a healing force. They believe that there is no way that a universal force could flow through one person at any given time.
The best way to help these skeptical people understand Reiki is for them to have one treatment before they claim it as bunk. They would find that they are very wrong. Treatments are very relaxing and very gentle with soft music playing in the background. They would lay on the table while the practitioner makes a circle of their entire body with the Reiki force. They would start at the patient’s head chakra and go all the way down to the root chakra opening any that have closed. The they do each knee chakra. Then you flip over, and they work on your back chakras. After that, they give you an affirmation and anchor it in with a symbol and you are done. It takes about an hour to go through the whole process.

Reiki Massage – The Hands On Relaxation Mode
The term reiki massage is a bit of an oxymoron when it comes right down to it simply because in reality reiki is NOT massage. However, some regard it as “massaging” the energy field. But to mention reiki massage is confusing, as this is nothing like a conventional remedial massage therapy from a licensed massage therapist.
In most instances reiki healing (not reiki massage) is the use of spiritual energy to heal a person’s aura or situation. Massage on the other hand is the process of rubbing or kneading different parts of the body for therapeutic reasons or purposes. Now having said this, there are indeed many massage therapists who are trained in reiki and who combine the two disciplines to get an even better result for the client. In instances like that, then you could aptly describe what you are receiving as reiki massage.
Licensed massage therapists who take reiki are learning how to better use their already existing healing energies to promote the spiritual well-being of their clients, as well as their physical well-being. Their treatments then become a blend of reiki massage – but this is really the only instance where those two things go together in the same sentence. So keeping this in mind, when we refer to reiki massage in this article, we are referring to a massage therapist giving reiki using the usual hand positions.
The usual treatment of reiki massage starts at the head and then works down the front of the body and down the back of the body through the seven different chakras. Where the hands are placed coincide with your seven major chakras or in other words, the energy centers of your physical body. Reiki massage helps you manage pain, deal with stress and relaxes you on a very deep level. The hands of the reiki practitioner will either be laying on you gently or working just a few inches above your body. The healing energy is sent through/channeled by the practitioner into you.
There is no need to be nervous about a massage treatment combined with reiki at the same time. The reiki will not hurt you in any way. It is actually used to help treat conditions such as lockjaw, muscle pain, tension, stress, injury healing and well over 60 other types of ailments. In the Western world you will discover there are four areas/chakras used for treatment – the head, body, legs/feet and back.
It is safe to say that reiki treatments are one hundred percent safe and do not have any side effects, nor do they incur injuries. Some will experience sensations like warmth, tingling or cold during their session, but these sensations will not hurt you. Depending on the patient, Reiki treatments have been known to show results immediately or at a later time.
What is Reiki? The Gift of Universal Life Force Energy!
June 23, 2008
What is Reiki? In its simplest form, reiki is universal life force energy that is given to a client through a reiki practitioner. But, other than that – what is reiki? From a healing point of view, it is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing. If you have read anything about reiki, then you will have heard about the laying on of hands and have wondered what is reiki able to do for me?
The laying on of hands is done to channel the universal life force energy through the practitioner to the client. This isn’t so far fetched if you stop to think about it. This life force energy flows through all of us and is what causes us to be alive. Are you wondering what is reiki going to do about you feeling sick or stressed? Good question. The answer is if your life force energy is low, then you are more likely to get sick or feel stress. If on the other hand your life force energy is strong and high, you are much more capable of being happy and healthy.
What is reiki in Japanese mean? The word reiki is made up of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki with is the life force energy. So what that all means is that reiki is really spiritually guided life force energy.
What is reiki in terms of treatments? Reiki treats the whole person and that includes the body, emotions, mind and spirit. Imagine the well-being to be derived from this! Reiki can be done with a gentle laying on of hands and following all the hand positions of a traditional reiki treatment. Or, the practitioner can work in the energy field of your body, just a few inches above you. Either way, you will receive the benefits of reiki.
You may feel either heat or cold or tingling. No two people are the same in the way they receive energy from the practitioner. Reiki is simple, natural, holistic, safe and the ideal companion to conventional massage or any type of medical healing. It won’t hurt you and it may even make you feel better. Do your research on reiki before you decide if you want to try this marvelous healing experience. You will learn of its origins, what practitioners believe in, how they work, how they channel the life force energy to you and what the overall benefits to you can be.
If you like what you read and hear and experience, then you will delighted to know it is amazingly easy to learn as well. The ability to use reiki is not taught in the usual sense, through book learning (although you can learn about it this way). It is instead transferred to the student during a reiki class by the Reiki Master.
