Reflexology is a type of medical procedure that involves the manipulation of the nerve endings that are located in the feet and the hands in order to achieve relief from symptoms which may occur all over the body. Reflexology is a practice that is much in line with that of zone therapy; in that respect, we’ve created this article in order to help to inform you about what zone therapy is and how it can be useful as a medical procedure.

Zone therapy is a practice that has its roots in ancient Egypt. Hieroglyphs have shown that ancient Egyptians were aware that manipulating the hands and the feet can be useful when it comes to achieving an anesthetic quality elsewhere in the body. In zone therapy, the body is divided into ten separate and distinct zones. A map of zone therapy points shows that the practice separates the human body vertically into five zones on the right side of the body and five zones on the left. The zones are identical on both sides of the body, but are linked with different parts of the body. These separate zones correspond to different parts of the body, as the nerve endings that are found within the feet and the hands lead to all of the organs inside our bodies. One of the easiest places to manipulate these nerve endings are in the fingers and the toes, where the nerve endings are the most easily accessible to the zone therapy practitioner. To that end, each of the zones corresponds to certain fingers and toes that can be manipulated in order to achieve certain effects. As an example, the 4th zone on the left side of the body corresponds to the ring finger of the left hand and the fourth toe on the left foot.

Manipulating the nerve endings located in these areas are said to have a positive effect on the brain, eyes, lungs, breasts, large intestines and ovaries. Gentle circular rolling motions are used in order to manipulate the nerves and to achieve the anesthetic result. Pinching is also necessary in certain circumstances in order to properly manipulate the nerve endings. Areas are generally manipulated for between a half of a minute and five minutes in order to achieve the full effect.

One great thing about zone therapy is that it is a type of alternative medicine that you can learn in your own home and use at will. Many people regularly practice zone therapy on themselves in order to keep their health in optimal condition. Since practitioners contend that zone therapy can be useful when it comes to helping the body’s stress to be released, it can be of great merit when it comes to keeping you in good health and spirits. If you’d like to learn more about reflexology or zone therapy, there are plenty of resources online that are at your disposal. You can buy books or DVDs that show you exactly how to get the kind of results that you need out of the practices.

Habitual sleeplessness is called insomnia. Chances are if you experience it, you don’t need me to define it, and that fact that it is frustrating is an understatement. Insomnia affects one out of ten Americans and approximately 30 percent of healthy seniors. Insomnia can cause the inability to fall asleep at night, or cause you to wake up during the night without the ability to fall back asleep. Although insomnia itself is not dangerous, it often is a symptom of a more serious underlying medical condition.

Insomnia has been studied and it has been shown that 50 percent of insomnia cases can be attributed to depression and psychological disorders, such as anxiety, stress, or grief. Insomnia can also result from a wide variety of causes such as arthritis, asthma, apnea, hypoglycemia, hyperthyroidism, digestive system disorders, kidney or heart disease, muscle aches, Parkinson’s disease or just simple physical pain.

Furthermore, it is known that certain drugs such as many of the commonly used anti-depressants, anti-seizure medications, appetite suppressants, beta-blockers for high blood pressure and the decongestant pseudoephedrine (found in most cold and allergy medications) contribute to insomnia.

So what can be done about it without drug intervention? One of the best treatments for insomnia is reflexology for a multitude of reasons.

Reflexology is the practice of applying pressure in a strategic manner to reflexes of the feet and hands, and even the face and ears. Reflexologists see the hands and feet as an open door to the bodies systems. Each section of the feet and hands correlate to a specific organ. By stimulating nerves on specific areas of the feet and hands, you can stimulate blood flow and eliminate toxin buildup in the corresponding organs and systems of the body. And because reflexology works to put the body in a state of well-being, it is beneficial to every system in the body. It helps reduce body tension and definitely brings a sense of relaxation.

You may be wondering if you will need to learn reflexology yourself or if you will need to pay for professional services. That is a personal matter of preference. If you are not concerned with the cost of getting professional services, more power to you. However, most people simply cannot afford the services on a regular basis. Furthermore, if you are suffering from insomnia, chances are you will need the therapy on a moments notice and late at night, so professional services probably are not the way to go, except for maybe getting you started on a routine. One of the most attractive things about reflexology is that it is simple to learn. Not to say that there isn’t a technique that should be followed, because there is. However, of the many forms of massage and healing techniques, reflexology is probably the easiest and fastest form of therapy to learn. Many believe it is part intuitive and part learned skill. For me, it comes quite naturally. Whatever you decide to do, just remember that you are ultimately responsible for your health and it is high time we start accepting that responsibility. I do not believe drugs are the answer to our problems. Try a complimentary treatment such as reflexology and draw your own conclusions.

In modern day society, many people choose to undergo whatever their doctors tell them will be the best for their health. Alternatively, however, there are many different forms of therapy that can offer results but are less widely known than types of Western medicine. In this article, we’ll help you to learn more about reflexology so that you can find out whether or not this special type of alternative therapy can be useful in helping you to get over the problems that you are having with your health.

First, we’ll go over some of the basics to give you a better idea of what reflexology is. It is sometimes referred to as zone therapy, and more often than not, it is used as a type of complementary therapy to conventional medical treatments. It is very different from other forms of therapy, as it focuses upon the manipulation of the nerves that are found in the feet, hands and the ears in order to help other parts of the body. The reflexologist generally uses their thumbs and fingers to manipulate specific ‘zones’ located on the feet, hands, and eras in order to address a specific problem. Different zones of the feet, hands, and ears are known to correspond to helping specific different parts of the body, and many reflexologists keep charts that help to illustrate exactly which parts of the feet that they should focus on in order to treat a specific problem.

There are numerous positive health effects that individuals report after they receive reflexology treatment. Amongst the many benefits include a decreased level of stress, as well as a higher level of energy, increased circulation, and a boosted immune system. People claim that the practice can also be helpful when it comes to eliminating or lessening symptoms of PMS, as well as helping to assist with lessening the pain that headaches can cause. Those who suffer from cancer pain and victims of multiple sclerosis also may find relief from receiving treatment from a reflexologist.

There is no real scientific consensus on why reflexology is so helpful in benefiting the health of different parts of the body. Some contend that the practice works by helping to correct energy levels throughout the body. Others believe that the manipulation of the nerves in the feet helps to break up stress patterns that may be present in other parts of the body since there are around seven thousand nerves in the feet alone. Still others claim that reflexology techniques help the body to release neurotransmitters in order to help the individual to feel better. Although there are many different hypothesis, science has been unable to accurately explain how reflexology works as of the writing of this article.

Hopefully, this article has helped to give you a good basic idea of what reflexology is and the types of problems that it may be able to remedy. Remember that reflexology is often used as a complementary therapy, meaning that you should not cast aside Western medicine, and instead use reflexology as additional treatment to the care that you are already receiving.

The John Davis Rolfing practice is a marriage of structural integration and chiropractics. Rolfing works on the soft tissues to stretch the non-cellular matrix that makes up the connective tissue called fascia. Fascia covers every muscle, bone and structure in the body. Rolfing breaks down the stiff fibers and allows them to stretch so that the body can come into balance with its center of gravity. Chiropractors work on the musculoskeletal system to help the body become balanced also. A combination of the two forms of manipulation, such as John Davis Rolfing and chiropractics, allows for complete alternative health care.

Many doctors and chiropractors include Rolfing in their practice because of the benefits for the client. Rolfing, as well as chiropractics is an alternative form of health care. Both Rolfers and chiropractors manipulate the body to create proper alignment. People report that John Davis Rolfing is painful at first touch; however the pain was replaced by a huge amount of energy.

The demand for Rolfers in the field of chiropractics has increased so much that insurance companies are coming on board to acknowledge the practice of Rolfing as an accepted mode of health care. Many practitioners, such as John Davis Rolfing, accept insurance such as Kaiser Permanente. Ask your insurance company if it covers Rolf treatments.

To find a Rolf practitioner in your area is easy; go to the Rolf Guild website and click on search for Rolfer. The directory will list the name and the contact information of the Rolfer. Once you have located one, just call or email them and ask about information about his/her practice. If you are interested in chiropractic therapy, such as with John Davis Rolfing, being included, just ask if he/she is also a chiropractor, or if there is a chiropractor on staff.

All Rolf practitioners operate on the fundamentals taught by the Rolfing founder, Ida P. Rolf. She taught that the body is like plastic, and it can change its shape. She taught that gravity changes the shape of the body due to the misalignment caused by the effects of gravity. Dr. Rolf taught that the connective tissue of the body could be manipulated to stretch to allow for the body to come into balance with its center of gravity. Dr. Rolf studied Yoga, osteopathy among other subjects to be able to help people. Her techniques are the same techniques used by all Rolf practitioners, including John Davis Rolfing.

Anyone looking for a Rolf professional that will meet your needs only needs to interview some professionals and ask questions. Ask how much the sessions cost, and if your insurance will cover it. Ask if it hurts to be Rolfed. Ask whatever questions that you feel you need an answer to. Then ask for testimonials from clients. Anecdotal evidence is often the deciding factor for many people. You can ask the practitioner’s clients the same questions you asked the Rolf professional. As with John Davis Rolfing can hurt, but most clients say it is a good kind of hurt. Most people admit to feeling much better and having much more energy than before they started Rolfing treatments.

Okay ladies, its time to talk about PMS. Premenstrual Syndrome is something that happens once a month and the severity definitely varies among women. Some women have emotional and physical symptoms that completely disrupt their lives while others experience minimal symptoms. The typical treatments for PMS are over the counter medications that can help with the bloating, irritability, headaches, and other symptoms. The most common of these medications is Midol and Tylenol PMS. However, there are plenty of complementary medication and alternative medicines that can help.

Although any man who lives or knows a woman who suffers from PMS will most likely complain about it, the woman definitely has it worse. It is terrible feeling bloated, ugly, irritable, unstable, depressed, not to mention the pain and discomfort as well. Complementary medication and alternative medicines are available so that this time of the month does not have to be so disruptive.

Complementary medication is taken in conjunction to the traditional medications. Therefore, this could include drinking a chamomile tea to relax the muscles and help with the sleep deprivation while taking an over the counter medication or birth control pill. Alternative medicines are used instead of traditional medications. Therefore, women who are not on a steady birth control pill or do not want to take over the counter medications should look into the alternative medicines. Alternative medicines do not have to be something that is ingested. Complementary medication and alternative medicines can consist of relaxation methods, exercise, diet change, and other treatments.

Relaxation techniques usually involve breathing exercises, yoga, and meditation. This can help reduce the irritability as well as the mood swings. For women who get depression with their PMS, something called sleep deprivation therapy could help. It has been proven that women who experience at least one night of recovery sleep typically do not experience as much depression with their PMS. This means that at least one of the nights during PMS or the actual period, it is helpful to get around three or four extra hours of sleep.

This helps the body recover from the stresses of the PMS and period. Another common complementary medication and alternative medicines therapy is bright light therapy. This is when women intakes cool white florescent light in the mornings during the time of PMS can reduce the symptoms. Regardless of what symptoms need to be helped, there are tons of options and choices for complementary medication and alternative medicines for women who suffer from PMS, and let us face it, the men in their lives as well.

Sometimes when you find an unbalanced or closed chakra, you can do some meditation or visualization to help unblock the chakra. You want them spinning and aligned properly, but the stress of life will get them out of alignment. There are some oil blends that may help with this problem. You can mix these up by using 30 drops of the specific oil to half an ounce of either Jojoba or Sweet Almond Oil. You could also add these into the bath or add a candle underneath and let them seep into the air around you. You should only use a certain blend of fragrances for about a week. After that, your nose will become used to the smell. Although you should see some improvement within the week.

The oils you can blend for each chakra are as follows:
Root: Yang Yang, Rosewood, Frankincense
Sacral: Jasmine
Solar Plexus: Lemon, Grapefruit, Mandarin
Heart: Rose, Geranium
Throat: Sandalwood, Myrrh, Chamomile
Third Eye: Sage, Lavender, Rosemary
Crown: Frankincense, Rosewood

Areas to anoint with oils:
Root: Lower pelvic area, Buttocks Goddess: Hera Color: Red
Sacral: Lower back, pelvic area Goddess: Aphrodite Color: Orange
Solar Plexus: Underneath the rib cage Goddess: Persephone Color: Yellow
Heart: Chest area Goddess: Demeter Color: Green
Throat: Front and back of neck Goddess: Athena Color: Blue
Third Eye: Between the eyes Goddess: Artemis Color: Indigo
Crown: Top of the head Goddess: Hestia Color: White

After mixing and applying, you can chant the goddess’ name and visualize the colors that go along with the chakras. Depending on the amount of the blockage, it will take from one to seven days for it to open back up. Listen to your intuition and pay attention to your dreams. The answers you seek will be found within yourself.

There are some great home remedies to lighten hair - no need for bought hair dyes if you have dirty blonde or mouse colored hair.

Sun

The best, purest and most natural way to get those real blonde highlights is to be out in the sun. Lie face down with clothing covering your skin and spread your hair out to drink in the rays of sunlight. Or just get out in the sun more. Anyone with blonde to mid brown hair will find that it is always lighter in summer - provided you do not stay indoors all of the time.

Do not overdo it of course. You must be careful not to become sunburned. Use a strong sun blocker on all exposed skin and you may also consider using sun cream on your scalp.

Swimming

Swimming in either a pool or the sea and then letting your hair dry in the sun is a great way to lighten it. It’s great exercise too!

However, some of us live in climates where there is very little sun for many months of the year. What do we do then?

Hydrogen Peroxide

Mix small amounts of household ammonia and hydrogen peroxide in equal quantities. Warning: it will smell bad! Test on a small area of skin near the ear and wait 24 hours to see if there is any allergic reaction. If not, mix a fresh batch and apply to hair. Rinse off when developed. You may also want to test on a strand of hair.

Never use household bleach or any other chlorine based product on your hair. This can destroy your hair, cause terrible damage to your skin and possibly kill you with the fumes.

Lemon Juice

Squeeze one fresh lemon. It should give you about 2 tablespoons of juice. Mix this with 3 times the quantity of water and apply to dry hair. Leave for several hours before rinsing out. Do this every day and your highlights should become lighter in a very natural looking way.

You may want to use more of the lemon juice/water mixture if you have very long hair and less if you have short hair.

Tea

Ordinary tea can lighten brown hair - seems crazy given the color that it is, but it’s true! Make tea to a normal strength that you would drink, let it cool and then rinse your hair with it.

It is best to test a strand before using tea on your whole head. If your hair is already a light shade, it may darken it.

Some of these methods can leave your hair rather dry, so be sure to use a good conditioner for blonde hair. Shampoos and conditioners containing chamomile are great for fair hair.

Going out in the sun after using any of these home remedies to lighten hair will increase their effectiveness.

Ulcerative colitis is one of the most diagnosed diseases of the intestine. It is an autoimmune disease meaning that the body’s immune system is attacking the large intestine. Although commonly confused with irritable bowel syndrome and Chrones’ Disease it is different. Ulcerative colitis affects the lining of the large intestine and rectum. Chrones can appear anywhere from the esophagus to the rectum and is deeper within the walls of the intestine and other organs. Ulcerative colitis is typically controlled through the use of an anti-inflammatory drug called Asacol.

Although when Asacol does not control the illness the next step is steroids and then a surgery called a total colectomy and J pouch. The root of the illness has not been determined, but there is definitely a genetic link. There is also the sign that stress and irritation to the body both physically and mentally can have a negative effect on the illness. Although stress does not create the disease, it can make the symptoms worse. If typical drug therapy is something that someone with colitis is not interested in, then there are complementary and alternative therapies available. However, colitis can be quite serious and results in the bleeding of the intestines and therefore, people are most often to use complementary therapies rather than alternative therapies.

The most common of the complementary and alternative therapies is most definitely psychotherapy or counseling. This is because it can reduce the stress and therefore lessen the symptoms of the disease. It allows people to remain on an even keel so to speak and with mood stabilization comes less pain and discomfort. Complementary and alternative therapies can also include changing your diet. For example, sometimes the lining of the colon is so affected that foods that are difficult to digest normally become impossible for people with colitis to digest.

Therefore, it is quite common for a complementary and alternative therapies diet to include the following. First, corn and popcorn are often not tolerated by people with the illness and refrain from eating these foods. Others may find it hard to digest foods that are considered roughage as well as anything that is overly spicy. There are many different diet plans available for people with colitis; however, each person will notice what disturbs their system the most. Complementary and alternative therapies may also include drinking hot beverages with their meals and having relaxing hot baths. The heat from the beverage helps to digest food while the heat from the bath tends to relax the bowel. Complementary and alternative therapies for ulcerative colitis can be researched online, from a physician, or in medical journals.
