Natural Remedies and Children: The Pros and Cons

October 30, 2009

Are you a parent? If you are, there may come a point in time where your child may be faced with a minor medical issue. This minor medical issue can include something such as head lice, the chicken pox, a severe headache, or a toothache. While many parents wouldn’t think twice about taking their child to a professional in the medical field, you may want to do so. Did you know that there are a large number of natural remedies that can be used to treat a wide range of minor medical problems, such as headaches, toothaches, head lice, or the chicken pox?

As nice as it is to hear that there are a number of natural remedies that may be perfect for children suffering from minor medical problems, many parents are still unsure. After all, parents want what is best for their children. That is why many parents, especially those who are unfamiliar with home remedies and natural remedies, are a little bit leery. Of course, natural remedies have their advantages and disadvantages, but so does just about everything else in the world. With that being said, you may still be wondering if natural remedies are right for your child. To help you come up with the conclusive answer that is best for your own family, please continue reading on.

As previously stated, natural remedies have their own sets of advantages and disadvantages. For the advantages, you will find that there are a large number of them. For example, natural remedies are safe. In fact, they are much safer than most over-the-counter products, as these products are often stocked full of chemicals that many of us cannot even pronounce.

The ease of use and implementation is another advantage or plus side to using natural remedies as a way to treat minor medical problems in a child. One of the reasons why natural remedies are also commonly referred to as home remedies is because many of the needed ingredients can already be found inside most homes. This makes treating a child with home remedies easy and convenient. It is also important to mention the saved time and money. Home remedies eliminate travel and costly trips to the doctor’s office or drug store.

Although most home and natural remedies are regarded as being safe, there are still a number of steps that you will want to take when using a home remedy on your child. For starters, be sure to follow all directions. Next, never give your child a home remedy that has an ingredient that they may be allergic to or have a reaction with, such as dairy foods. It is also important to discuss the process with your child. For example, if you are using mayonnaise to kill head lice, be sure to tell your child not to touch the mayonnaise, let alone eat it. Generally speaking, using your best judgment as a parent is one of the easiest ways for you and your child to see success with a home remedy.

If you are interested in examining what all of your options are, in terms of natural remedies, you can perform a standard internet search online. When doing so, it may be best to search for the specific home remedy that you are looking for. For example, if you are interested in getting rid of your child’s head lice, search with the phrase “natural head lice remedy.” In addition to using the internet to your advantage, you can also purchase your own printed natural remedy manual, many of which are available for sale both on and offline.

As you can see, there are number of advantages to using home remedies and natural remedies as a way to treat your child when they are dealing with a minor medical problem, such as head lice, the chicken pox, a headache, or a toothache. Whether your family is uninsured or if your child just has a fear of the doctors office, consider giving a natural remedy a try first. Both you and your child may be pleased with the results.

Reflexology Charts

October 27, 2009

The philosophy behind the art of reflexology is the premise that there are certain reflex sites found on the hand and feet which actually correspond with different organ and systems of the body. By producing pressure on these sites, through pressure/touch, message, or squeezing, the corresponding organs and body systems can benefit from the procedure. Reflexology charts are useful for mapping out the exact reflex site aligned with the corresponding body part. Evidence of ancients reflexology charts are found on Egyptian tombs.

Reflexology Chart Modern reflexology charts generally show the diagram of a hand, foot or ear with the zones mapped out. Reflexology charts are very colorful with a different color or shade representing different organs or systems of the body. The reflexology charts can be numbered and labeled to assist in ease of location for the practitioner to effectively locate the zone for treatment.

Reflexology charts can come in all shapes and sizes from a small book diagram to a large wall size chart effective for classroom instruction. There are some wonderful new tools for home use available as well such as:

Reflexology Hand Chart Reflexology gloves come with the chart imprinted on them to massage the hands. These colorful reflexology charts are printed on both sides of the gloves so the person doing the application will remember to massage both the front and back of the hand. It is important to note that the reflexology charts on the right and left hand are not identical and not to confuse one with the other while doing the pressure therapy.

Reflexology mats are designed to facilitate exercise and meditation. Reflexology mats have raised bumps along the surface. These bumps will apply pressure to the feet when the individual walks upon them. Thus the individual will not only have a good physical workout but reap the benefit of their healing properties as well. The mats are made out of a soft rubber and are effective in releasing body toxins, stress and fatigue.

Reflexology socks also have the chart imprinted on them. They are stretchable - one size fit all. Generally speaking the recipient will engage another individual to effectively message the feet by following the therapeutic guide. Not only can the socks produce physical holistic health results but can add a psychological bonding or intimacy between couples.

Stimulating these pressure points can improve circulation, relieve stress detoxify the body, release energy trapped within the body and more. Reflexology charts will guide you to the right pressure point to stimulate the organ or body system that you want to concentrate upon.

Acupuncture And Tai Chi For Stress Management

October 21, 2009

Acupuncture and tai chi are methods which many people believe can help to release the flow of energy throughout the body. These ancient forms of health care are becoming more and more commonly used in the western hemisphere, as people realize the benefits to their health and well-being.

In a study conducted at Yale University Medical School in the 1990’s acupuncture was demonstrated to significantly reduce stress. The study showed that the technique succeeded in lowering blood pressure, anxiety state, heart rate and electrodermal activities in the majority of test subjects.

In a second study, published in 1998, acupuncture was successful in treating 85.7 percent of test subjects with General Anxiety Disorder.

Acupuncture is considered a holistic medicine, and those who are treated generally experience no side effects. This is in stark contrast to the many side effects often experienced by patients taking prescription medications to reduce the affects anxiety and stress.

While acupuncture requires the use of very small, fine needles applied to specific areas of the body, tai chi is a non-invasive form of acupuncture, which requires no needles to be effective.

Both procedures have been shown to reduce the presence of certain chemicals in the body which are produced at high levels during periods of stress. Additionally these procedures help to optimize nerve transmissions along the spine, and stimulate the internal organs, increasing their ability to function properly.

Rules for Reiki: Part Two

October 18, 2009

You must learn to trust yourself when you start your practice of Reiki. Use your intuition to help you know where to go on the body and what you need to do. Don’t question what you are doing, know that you are being guided by what is best for the patient. It doesn’t have to make sense, you just need to do what feels appropriate and comfortable t you.

There are many books out there that cover hand positions and symbols and have many strict rules in them. Reiki doesn’t have to be strict in its approach. It is the intent of the practitioner that controls the Reiki. Most practitioners only want to help the patient feel better. The different hand positions are useful but sometimes are not needed when we are in the moment and being guided by our own intuition. If something feels right, then it probably is. There is no wrong way to use Reiki.

Commit yourself to your practice and keep up with your daily self healing sessions. As with most things, whatever you put into Reiki is what you will get out of it. So practice everyday to keep the energy flowing abundantly. After a couple of weeks, if you miss a treatment, you will find yourself missing the free flowing energy.

Some practitioners take right off and seem to get everything and do everything right. Some have t try a little harder. Just don’t try too hard. In many sessions, even when you are feeling like there is no Reiki and nothing is happening, the patient will speak up and tell you that they feel where you have been. Trust your abilites. If you start second guessing and worrying, the Reiki will get blocked. So do what comes natural, even if you don’t feel anything and see how the patient perceives it instead.

Rules for Reiki

October 14, 2009

Be mindful of everything going on in your life. Whether you are walking the dog or driving somewhere, become aware of everything that is going on around you. Live in this moment, the present one. Don’t worry about the next. This way, we are following Mikao Usui’s principles of life to not worry and not anger.

To keep up your own practice for other people, you must do Reiki to yourself daily. This keeps the energy flowing and helps keep you unblocked as a practitioner. After all, if your chakras are blocked, there is no way you can help someone else open theirs. You will become a better channel of the Universal Life Force and the Reiki energy.

When giving a treatment, don’t worry about doing it just right. Listen to your intuition and go where you feel you are shown. If you spend a minute on the heart chakra and ten on the throat, that is fine. Likewise, in another person, if you spent only three on the throat. Different people will need different chakras open. When you feel a cold or closed chakra, you know this is where you need to work.

Make sure you have a specific routine for doing the treatment. Follow it every time you give a Reiki treatment. Start at the head and go down through all the chakras. Do both elbow and knee chakra. There is a rule that what you do to one side must be done to the other as well. So ensure you have given attention to left and right and back and front. After you finish, anchor in their affirmation and help them up.

Don’t ever work on someone when you are angry or upset. The Reiki will not flow. Reiki is a Universal Life Force that is only used with good intent. If you have bad feelings when you are trying to give a treatment, it will not work. Always be in a good frame of mind when giving treatments, otherwise it would behoove you to cancel.

Gall Stone Home Remedy: Get Rid Of Gallstones Without Surgery

October 9, 2009

The most effective gall stone home remedy is a simple gall bladder flush. Yes simple - not the nicest way to spend a Saturday perhaps but for most people, better than needing surgery somewhere down the line.

First, loosen the stones by drinking an 8 oz glass of apple juice morning and evening for 4-6 weeks. This is a very important step and you should not skip it and try to do the flush right away, it just will not work.

The best kind of apple juice is home made by putting organic apples through a juicer. Next best, buy organic apple juice from a health food store. It must be made from whole apples, not concentrate, with no added sugar or other additives, and not the kind that will keep for months.

Try to eat healthy foods during these 4-6 weeks. In particular, make sure you are getting enough fiber so that your digestive system and bowels are working well. This may mean increasing your intake of fruits and vegetables above the famous ‘5 a day’.

Then you will need to set aside a day when you are home with no commitments. You are going to need to be in or near a bathroom most of the day.

The day before, you will do a short semi-fast. You will not eat any solid food this day. Drink your apple juice in the morning as usual and you can have another glass at lunchtime if you want.

If you have not done a juice fast before, do not worry, it is not as difficult as it may sound. Any time you feel yourself tempted to eat other foods, just remind yourself that it is only for one day and it needs to be done for the sake of your health. A lot of people do juice-only fasts of 1 to 7 days as a regular thing. In fact, there is even a fashion right now of 90 day ‘juice feasting’ where no solid food is eaten for 3 months. So you can do it for just one day, right?

In the evening, before going to bed, drink 8 oz of organic extra virgin olive oil mixed with 4 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice from actual whole lemons. This mixture tastes something like salad dressing. You will probably need about 4 lemons, depending on size and juiciness. Do not use bottled lemon juice.

In the morning (at least 8 hours later) take a fast-acting natural laxative, either epsom salts or 10 oz citrate of magnesia (not milk of magnesia). You should then expect to need the bathroom often for several hours because you are going to have diarrhea.

In with the diarrhea you should find that you pass many little green stones like small peas. These are the gall stones.

Congratulations, you have successfully flushed out your gall bladder!

This process may be helpful for healthy adults but is not recommended for anybody needing medical attention. If you have any health issues consult your doctor before using this gall stone home remedy or other natural remedies.

Articles on Music Therapy

October 5, 2009

Today’s society is filled with people trying to find alternative remedies to illnesses. There are many reasons for this, from lack of health insurance to the desire to avoid medication. But whatever the reason, many alternative therapies, like music therapy, have grown in popularity. In fact, music therapy has not only gained popularity, it has also gained recognition as a medical profession. This has led many students interested in careers helping others to seek degrees in music therapy.

Of course, both students and people who are seeking relief from ailments are searching for information about music therapy. This is where articles on music therapy become important. Articles on music therapy can help educate non-professionals about this professional field. Professionally written articles, such as research articles, are the best way to go for those who are looking for information regarding the proven benefits of music therapy. These articles will give the reader an idea of what types of music therapy techniques have been used in which situations, and how those techniques have fared when compared to traditional therapy methods.

For example, a person interested in using music therapy to treat chronic pain would want to search for articles on music therapy that dealt with the results of research performed on chronic pain patients. These articles will give the person an idea of the music therapy techniques that seem to work the best on chronic pain patients – such as utilizing music as a distraction from pain, or as a relaxation method to reduce physical stress that can enhance the brain’s perception of pain. Articles on music therapy allow the reader to see how music therapy is used in chronic pain patients and what he or she can expect from music therapists for his or her particular condition. The reader can also choose the technique that seems best to him or her and suggest that to his or her music therapist.

Whether the reader is a student or a potential music therapy patient, it is extremely important for him or her to know how to determine the validity of the articles on music therapy he or she is reading. The best resources are available at the library; published articles are written by scholarly authors with formal background in the subject. If the library is not an option, the interested person can look for legitimate articles on music therapy on the internet. A good tip for this person is to look for articles published on websites hosted by professional music therapy organizations like the American Music Therapy Association. Articles on music therapy from these organizations will be accurate and up-to-date.

Natural Remedies for Acne

October 1, 2009

Acne is a skin condition that millions of individuals deal with, sometimes on a daily basis. Although acne is not a life threatening condition, it can cause great stress. Acne, especially when constantly touched or picked at, can also lead to scaring or even an infection. For that reason, those suffering from acne often look for different ways to seek relief.

When it comes to seeking relief from acne, there are a large number of over-the-counter products that claim to provide relief. In addition to simply just appearing on store shelves, a large number of over-the-counter acne medications are also appearing on our television screens and with famous celebrities standing behind the products. Of course, if you are suffering from acne you can give these over-the-counter products a try, but it is also important to know that you do have a number of different options. These options involve the use of natural remedies and home remedies, which are a safer way to treat acne, as they do not rely on the use of potentially dangerous chemicals.

There are a number of natural remedies for acne that rely on the use of food. One of those remedies is that of lettuce. Saturating lettuce in water for about an hours worth of time will result in a special mixture. This mixture should then be applied to the skin, acting as a rinse. This approach is a nice and easy way to get rid of unwanted acne.

Fresh lime juice and milk are another natural remedy for getting rid of acne that comes highly rated and recommend. With this natural remedy for acne, boil a half of glass of milk. Once that milk has cooled, add in about the same amount of lime juice. You can then use a cloth to apply the mixture onto your acne infected area. As an important reminder, wait until the boiled milk has cooled to an ideal level to promote comfort and prevent burns.

For a small area of acne, ripe tomatoes can be used. For this home remedy, cut a ripe tomato in half and place the inside, wet portion of the tomato on the pimple or pimples. Leave it on for about an hours worth of time and then wash off. A similar approach to this natural remedy and one that still comes highly rated and recommended involves the use of tomato paste.

As previously stated, those suffering from severe acne put themselves at risk for developing an infection or scaring. Those who are known to touch or pick at their pimples are first advised to stop. That is the best way to keep your skin healthy. With that being said, Aloe Vera can also provide relief. When applied to the affected area, Aloe Vera can help to promote healthy healing on the skin.

As outlined above, there are a number of different natural remedies and home remedies for those suffering from acne, like you. As for why these natural remedies are advised, there are a number of different reasons. If you have ever tried over-the-counter skincare products before, you likely already know that they can be costly. Imagine that cost added up overtime. It is also important to note that many over-the-counter acne treatment products have poor reviews. In fact, did you know that some products actually cause users more problems with rashes and acne than before? That is why many are now starting to rely on natural remedies instead, as they are affordable, easy to implement, and safe.
